Yoshinori Natsume Ends Togari Shiro Sequel MangaAlso in Comic Flapper: Makoto Shinkai, Yasuhiro Imagawa, Sasameki Koto's Ikeda
Manga creator Yoshinori Natsume ended his Togari Shiro supernatural action sequel series in the June issue of Media Factory's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine on Monday. In the story, a murderer is given a chance to escape Hell after 300 years — if he can hunt down 108 Toga evil spirits in the 21st century with the Togari sword. Natsume launched Togari Shiro in 2009 as a continuation of the original Togari manga, and Media Factory published the second compiled book volume last October.
Natsume had created the original manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2000, but the magazine abruptly ended his work in 2002. In North America, Viz Media published the eight volumes of the original Togari run from 2007 to 2008, and then launched Natsume's Kurozakuro series last November. Natsume also drew the Batman: Death Mask graphic novel for DC Comics.
In the same June issue of Monthly Comic Flapper, Tomoko Mitani launched her manga adaptation of Hoshi o Ou Kodomo: Children who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, the latest work by Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, 5 Centimeters Per Second). The film itself will open in Japan this Saturday, and the current manga chapter serves as a prologue.
Also in the June issue, artist Yasuyuki Nekoi (Sōkoku no Garō - Hokuto no Ken: Rei Gaiden) and anime/manga creator Yasuhiro Imagawa (Giant Robo) launched the Kōsoku Otome no Seikatai (Restrained Maidens' Choir) manga. The two other new series are 34-sai Mushoku-san (Unemployed 34-Year-Old) by Takashi Ikeda (Sasameki Koto) and Yura Kouhi's four-panel Sensei to Boku -Natsume Soseki o Kakomu Hitobito— manga, which revolves around the late author Soseki Natsume (Kokoro).
The July issue will ship on June 4 with Asato Mizu's Denki-Gai no Honya-san (Electric Town Bookstore Worker) series, which is set in a manga bookstore.

Trigun Film Gets North American Theatrical ReleaseFilm based on Yasuhiro Nightow's manga to run subbed & dubbed in theaters this summer
Movie distributor Eleven Arts confirmed on Tuesday that it is partnering with FUNimation Entertainment to release the anime film Trigun: Badlands Rumble in summer 2011.
Funimation has confirmed with ANN that some theaters will show an English-dubbed version of the film, while others will show the film with the original Japanese track. The company also told ANN that the official Funimation Trigun website will be updated with the screening schedule "soon." Funimation originally indicated its plans to release the film theatrically when it announced the license at Anime Expo 2010.
Yasuhiro Nightow's manga Trigun was originally launched in 1995 in Tokuma Shoten's Shonen Captain manga anthology. In 1997 the magazine folded and Nightow switched publishers, releasing Trigun Maximum in Shonen Gahosha's Young King Ours until the series ended in 2008. In 1998, Madhouse Studios animated a television anime based on the series, which Geneon USA licensed in 1999. After Geneon USA closed, Funimation acquired the rights to the original series. Dark Horse Comics acquired the North American rights to both manga series in 2003, and published the series' final volume in 2009.
Plans for an animated Trigun feature film date back as far as 2005, when MADHOUSE's Masao Maruyama told a U.K. anime magazine that his studio was working on the film. However, the movie did not come to fruition until its spring 2010 release in Japan.

Of this list, only Bosch performed in the English dub of the original Trigun television anime commissioned by Pioneer Entertainment (USA) — the company later known as Geneon Entertainment (USA) — in 1999. In the original dub, Dorothy Melendrez played Meryl, Lia Sargent played Milly, and Jeff Nimoy played Wolfwood. (Amelia and Gasback are new characters for the anime film which did not appear in the original television series.)
On Tuesday, Funimation and Eleven Arts Entertainment confirmed their plans to release the Trigun: Badlands Rumble film in North American theaters this summer. Funimation further confirmed that some theaters will screen the English-dubbed version, and others will screen the film with its original Japanese dialogue.
